Your Cleaning Guide to Interior Shades
Basic Cleaning for Interior Shades
The main culprit you'll need to take care of is dust, which naturally accumulates no matter how spotlessly you keep your home. You probably already know this, but for the sake of completeness, we will remind everyone to not use water or sprays to clean interior shades — they aren't designed for it. So what should you do? Here are some basic steps for keeping your interior shades in tip-top shape.
Use Your Vacuum's Brush Attachment
The easiest way to clean most shades is by very gently vacuuming them with the brush attachment on. Try not to press on the shade itself, just brushing lightly across the surface. Longer brush wands can help with areas that are harder to reach.
Use a Lambswool Duster
Because they contain a little bit of lanolin, genuine lambswool dusters are great at collecting even the tiniest bits of dust with only a very light touch. Synthetic lambswool dusters are nearly as effective, too. Again, the gentlest pressure is best here.
Use a Dry Cleaning Sponge
If you need a little more power, for example with clingy pet hair, a special dry sponge can help. These sponges don't require any water, just rub gently over shades for a quick, easy cleaning. It's a good idea to support your shades from behind while cleaning, when possible, to avoid crumpling or damaging them
Call the Pros
Some shades are too hard to reach, or you may just want to have an annual deeper cleaning. If you're unsure about cleaning any shades yourself, professional cleaners can help.
